Pierre Gaviniès

Gaviniès became the first violin professor at the founding of the new Paris Conservatoire. Reportedly described by Viotti as the 'French Tartini', Gaviniès performed with a fiery emotion, full tone, and perfect execution. As a young man, Gaviniès was imprisoned for a year in consequence of an improper affair with a lady of the French court. Gaviniès students included Baudron, Capron, Guénin, Paisible, and Leduc.
