Emanuel Feuermann

            1902 — 1942

            Cellist

 

 

Emanuel Feuermann studied cello with Friedrich Buxbaum of the Rose String Quartet, and later with Klengel.  In 1929, Feuermann became cello professor at the Berlin Hochschule.  Fleeing the Nazi, Feuermann eventually settled in America and taught at the Curtis Institute.  Feuermann was famous for his trio and chamber playing with artists including Hindemith, Schnabel, Huberman, Rubinstein, and Heifetz.

Francescatti studied with his father, who in turn was a student of Paganini's only student, Sivori.  Francescatti finished his studies with Thibaud, and then toured with Ravel.  Francescatti recorded extensively with the pianist, Robert Casadesus.

An early promoter for the Cello, and a founding member of the Accademia Filarmonica in Bologna, Franceschini encouraged composition for the cello.  Franceschini found employment at San Petronio.

Franchomme studied cello with Norblin and Levasseur at the Paris Conservatoire, and formed a quartet with Alard.  Franchomme succeeded Norblin as cello professor at the Paris Conservatoire.
